UberMedia was founded by Bill Gross in 2010 and is an Idealab startup company based in Pasadena, California.
Chief Executive Officer
Bill Gross founded UberMedia in 2010 after a series of frustrating experiences tweeting during the Copenhagen climate conference in December 2009, the World Economic Forum in Davos and at the annual TED conference in early 2010. Getting lost in the noise of meaningless chatter and unable to easily connect with users interested in finding insightful tweeters from these events, Bill realized there had to be a better way to connect to serious tweeters and followers. Bill took his concept for UberMedia to the Idealab board and several potential investors, all of whom immediately saw its potential.
Bill is also the CEO of Idealab, where he has started over 75 companies. He serves on the boards of directors of numerous companies and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and of the Art Center College of Design. Bill received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
CTO & General Manager
Throughout Gladys’ 15-year career, she has been dedicated to innovating and developing new ideas within technology startups. Her tenure in technology is extensive: Gladys was CEO and co-founder of GO Interactive, a social gaming firm. Prior to that she was VP of Engineering at Snap.com, and VP of R&D at Idealab where she helped create numerous companies, including Evolution Robotics, Picasa, X1 Technologies, etc.
Gladys holds a B.S. in Engineering &Applied Science from Caltech and a M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA.
John has over fifteen years of experience with Idealab and other venture capital backed start-ups. He is an operationally focused controller, and keeping organizations on budget.
While working with companies such as UberMedia, Idealab, eSolar, CitySearch, and Disney, John has been involved in the fundraising and acquisition process for multiple companies in various stages of development.
John is a licensed CPA and holds an undergraduate degree from Humboldt State University as well as an MBA from Pepperdine.
SVP, Business Development
Jonas is a pioneer in the digital and entertainment marketing industry. He brings 20 years of experience in entertainment, advertising, promotional marketing, business development, and new technology to our team.
Prior to UberMedia he served as Managing Partner at GMS Media+Marketing and Senior Vice President of Marketing at Big Stage Entertainment, an advanced 3D animation company recognized by Forbes in 2009 as one of America’s 20 Most Promising Companies.
Past experience also includes serving as Vice President, New Ventures at Foote Cone & Belding (FCB) and Vice President, Global Client & Strategic Development at Maxx Marketing, a promotional marketing agency under Ogilvy, where he led worldwide entertainment licensing and partner marketing negotiations for clients ranging from Kellogg to KFC and Taco Bell, and oversaw the company’s agency of record relationship with KFC International. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Business & Strategic Development at DVD EXPRESS and Senior Director of International Marketing at CDNOW/N2K.
David joined UberMedia in 2010 to lead advertising sales and operations. He has 10 years of mobile experience including executive positions at both Handmark and Sprint, where he led high-speed data initiatives. His career includes startup experiences with Protocol Markteing and Sector Research as well as some formative years in the financial services arena.
David holds a B.A. from University of California, Berkely and an M.B.A. from Chicago Booth.
Alicia has an extensive background in consumer marketing. As a marketer for well-known brands like Wish-Bone Salad Dressing, Ragu Pasta Sauces, Total Cereals and Wheaties, Alicia has been dedicated to developing innovative digital media, social marketing and advertising initiatives.
Alicia received her MBA from the University of Michigan and her BA from Claremont McKenna College in economics. Prior to her marketing career, Alicia was a CPA with a Big 6 accounting firm. Having such a diverse background, she truly knows the value of reaching mass audiences, engagement through social media, effective advertising and innovative digital solutions as well as the importance in building ROI along with monetization.
